Examing Your Marketing Style: Five Questions to Ask about Your Business
If you want to make sure that your marketing style reflects your personal business philosophies, it’s important to take an unbiased look at your company’s public appearance. Though it can be hard to see your company from the eyes of the customer, trying to do so can make you aware of how well you’re achieving your marketing goals. Here are five questions to ask yourself about marketing style.
1. What does the logo tell me about the business?
Your logo should say a lot about your business, as it is one of the first things customers will notice. Examine your logo, looking carefully at the artistic styling, colors and fonts used in it. If your logo clearly reflects what your company is about, your marketing style is honest and open.
2. What does the tone of the writing suggest?
Considering the tone of your company’s writing in web copy and product information is also a good way to gauge your marketing style. If your company is dedicated to providing professional, top quality services for businesses, your writing should have a formal and professional tone. However, if your business is geared toward helping people prepare for parties and social events, the writing should reflect a more fun and lively tone.
3. How am I using images to communicate something about the business?
Any images your business uses should reflect your company in a way similar to that of the writing’s tone. If you’re including images that don’t really match up with what your business is about, then you’re not portraying your company accurately.
4. Is there any place where we’re exaggerating or making false claims?
As you determine how your marketing style is working, you’ll also need to look specifically at the messages you’ve put out to the public. Examine your website and any newsletters you’ve sent out, looking to see what you’ve told people about your business. Make certain that any claim you’ve made is completely accurate. Avoid exaggerating to play up the appearance of your business, as this can take away from your legitimacy.
5. What do our past customers think?
Finally, ask past customers for their feedback on your marketing style. You can ask them how your service or products matched up with their expectations from marketing materials. This is one of the best ways to gain an unbiased look at how your marketing is portraying your business.
